Love Denton, Jr. was born on March 28, 1947 as the eldest of Sarah McClelland Denton and Love Denton, Sr. He grew up in an area of Oklahoma City affectionately known by its residents as “Sandtown”.
Brother Love Denton, Jr. graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City where he played basketball and football. Next, he attended Junior College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma and while working as an Optician was drafted into the United States Army. In 1967 he married Dr. Dayle Aldridge and to this union Steve and Devyn Denton were born. Upon his return from living overseas he attended Central State University and was initiated into the Epsilon Gamma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., in 1972.
His next adventure was teaching, mentoring, educating and coaching. His coaching staff won two State Championships during his tenure at Northwest Classen High School of Oklahoma City, OK. In November 1986, Love began his career with the Seattle Public Schools coaching basketball at Ingraham High School, and then taught at King County Detention Center. In 1995, he became Assistant Principal for Seattle Alternative High School which later became South Lake High School. In 2013 he retired after 27 years of service with the Seattle Public Schools.
He was a member of the Principals Association of Seattle Schools, Washington Association of Secondary School Principals, National Association of School Principals, Washington Association of Black Educators and Divine Alternative for Dads Services (DADS). He was a proud member of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In 2013 he received the Distinguished Service Award from DADS and in 2007 was Seattle High Schools’ Principal of the Year.
Love Denton, Jr. entered Chapter Invisible on October 3, 2015 to be with his Lord and Savior. Love will be greatly missed by his loving family, Brothers: Harold, George, Michael, Ricky and Calvin, Sisters: Barbra, Venita, Irene and Jessica, Children: Devyn Denton and Jordan Smith.
